Structure of Course and draft of possible information to be covered:

Each week we will meet via zoom and watch videos on the training topics that week. We may or may not cover the expected material outlined below. We will watch the trainings and discuss application; I will answer questions and receive feedback on the videos and information being shared. As the ‘beta group’ this is the first class ever of Master Showmanship Academy. If you join, you will be one of the first students ever, will receive a huge discount, and the catch is that you will be helping me to make it relevant and valuable for students for years to come.

Week One:

  • Walking: mastering the lamb’s look on the move
  • Transitions: finesse and switching sides and positions smoothly
  • The first impression: dialing in those critical early moments
  • Eye contact: natural style, intensity and maintaining the look

Week Two:

  • Bracing: getting a real drive, building lasting endurance, lifting into place and training the brace – all from a gentler approach without the roughness
  • Styles: hand holds, bracing, and general show ring style

Week Three:

  • Setting up: mastering the six-second-set, getting the set right and staying set
  • Showing to your lamb’s advantage: exemplifying strengths and minimizing flaws
  • Routines and drills: Practice routines, practice drills, mirror routines, and how to practice

Week Four:

  • Training: halter braking, desensitizing, and going from wild to willing
  • Problem solving: training stubborn animals that jump, move, won’t walk, etc.
  • Selecting the ideal showmanship lamb: what to look for and why
  • Common issues with tall showmen and short lambs or young showmen with big lambs

Week Five:

  • Shag: growing hair, leg wrapping, and caring for the shag
  • Fitting and Shearing: getting up close, slow motion, and learning the fine details
  • Fitting equipment recommendations and show supplies to own: blower/scale/mirror/etc.

Week Six:

  • Feeding: how to master the nutrition, weight, supplements, and feel of your lamb
  • Exercise: how to exercise well even without the treadmills, walkers, or a dog

Week Seven:

  • Possible Feedback week: Students send in videos to get feedback and the group watches and learns from each other and their animals
  • Answering Questions: going over commonly asked questions and topics to study to prepare
  • Your Outfit: going briefly into show look and dressing for the show

Week Eight:

  • Wrap up week: go deeper into any number of topics we didn’t get deep into the original week or maybe catch up where we fell behind by diving deep into something that was more relevant at the time!
